After reading this course, you should be able to:
1. Explain what dyslexia is;
2. Identify children who may be at risk;
3. Describe inclusive strategies when addressing reading, spelling, writing and the curriculum with children with and without dyslexia;
4. Discuss strategies which help children address their specific challenges with concentration, slow processing, memory and organisation; and
5. Employ inclusive strategies to help pupils manage their profile.
You should also be able to understand that:
1. All children learn differently, which is why inclusion should always be the foundation of all teaching, learning and assessment;
2. Dyslexia may negatively impact the child, particularly in the school environment, so early identification and intervention are essential; and
3. Positive aspects of dyslexia should be explored, recognised and celebrated.
